119 Hines TerraceThe historic home of the month for August is 119 Hines Terrace. It is the home of Rick, Laura, Mary Jayne and Harrison Bonfim. Ridge is the family’s canine pet.

The original architect and owner are not known. It is rumored that the home was originally owned by Rev. Aynsworth, a Bishop of the United Methodist church, however the first recorded deed dates to1928 with McKibbin Lane listed as the owner. Linda Lane, the daughter of McKibbin eventually took possession of the home. Miss Lane remained in the home until May 2003, when it was sold to the Bonfims.

After three months of renovations the Bonfims took occupancy in August 2003. Later that year the house was featured in the Vineville Christmas Home Tour.

The major renovation at this time was the installation of a master bath on the second floor. The kitchen has been remodeled and features a large island.

This beautiful Georgian style home has many architectural details worth noting. The most impressive feature is the entry door which features an elliptical fanlight and two sidelights. The red brick exterior is complimented with crisp white trim. Crown moldings and chair rails are in the foyer, and the living room and dining rooms are in scale with the 12' ceilings and 10" baseboards. Interior door casings have a unique gadroon molding that is centered on the casing. Three working fireplaces, each a unique design, are original to the house. Floor buzzers, located throughout the house, were installed to summon the staff.

The Bonfim family has lived in the Vineville neighborhood since 1996. They have had residences on Ridge, Buford Place, Vineville and Habersham. While living on Buford their home was featured as a Yard of the Month.

119 Hines TerraceLaura Bonfim, a Fine Arts Graduate of Georgia College, has furnished their home with pieces suited to its fine details. The interior of the home is well appointed while being effortlessly comfortable.

Original works of art from local artists are placed throughout the home as part of the wall scapes. Artists included in their collection are Christina Bass, Joe Adams, Steve Penley, Bill Matthews and the owner herself, Laura Bonfim.

Previous owner, Linda Lane is responsible for the landscape design of this home. Decades of careful planting, space planning and maintenance have created a enchanting garden that flows from front to rear of home. The grounds include 14 large established Japanese Maples and multitudes of azaleas, irises, daffodils and camellias. Paul Williams maintains the grounds
for he family. Paul’s knowledge of horticulture insures the gardens will continue to flourish.

Special Note: Linda Lane was known for her musical achievements as a concert pianist. Her exceptional talents were evident when she performed at Carnegie Hall. She was also a professor of Music at Wesleyan College for many years.
