As neighborhood histories are collected for the historic Vineville district we will share them here so that everyone can learn more about the fascinating stories from our area.
The first history is of Stanislaus Circle by Seth Bush.
From the area's early use as a summer home for J.H.R. Washington, Mayor of Macon in 1856, to its use as an open air hospital for 2,000 sick and wounded Confederate soldiers in 1864 and 1865, to the founding of Pio Nono College in 1874, followed by the founding of St. Stanislaus College in 1889 until its tragic demise by fire in 1921, and subsequent unique home development after 1925 this area of Macon has a thoroughly rich history.
