The Pilot House at 159 Rogers Avenue, 1977-2005? by Jim Weldon
The Pilot Club of Macon is the founding club of Pilot International. It was established in 1921 by a group of civic-minded women anxious to form an organization just for women equal to any of the numerous men’s clubs and service organizations available at that time. The opportunity to network and receive support was almost non-existent for females and the idea was well received. The founding members sought assistance from the Rotarians and Kiwanis Club who agreed to offer their assistance in the foundation of the club.
Since it’s beginnings in 1921, the Pilot Club has grown to be an international organization with members nationwide and throughout the world. Locally, the Macon Club has operated continuosly since that time as a service club giving volunteer time and money for worthy causes.
During the 90’s emphasis was placed on helping those with brain related disorders. Work continues to be done with the Alzheimer’s Association, the Association of Retarded Citizens, the Macon Rescue Mission and Salvation Army.
Currently, Pilot International is a sponsor of Brain Minders. For more information on Pilot International please contact them at 102 Preston Court, Macon, GA. 31210 or call 478-474-7227.478-474-7227 or visit their website at: http://www.pilotinternational.org.
